at PT. SEAFOOD INSPECTION LABORATOTY
Bali, Indonesia | 2009 - 2023
In the early 2000s, I was sourcing seafood from factories across Indonesia’s remote islands for export to major global markets. At that time, access to reliable laboratory testing was extremely limited — existing private labs were slow, costly, and lacked ISO accreditation, resulting in data that wasn’t fully recognized by U.S. regulators or major international buyers.
Recognizing this gap, I set out to build a solution. Starting with a single Neogen Veratox histamine testing system on a desk in my office, I laid the foundation for what would become Indonesia’s benchmark in seafood testing.
By 2009, in collaboration directly with the U.S. FDA, we launched the first stand-alone PT Seafood Inspection Laboratory in Bali, enabling seafood producers nationwide to courier samples for standardized testing. The lab was an immediate success — ensuring the safety and compliance of seafood exports bound for North America and Europe.
In 2014, we expanded into a 500 m² facility in Denpasar and achieved ISO 17025 accreditation, becoming the first seafood-specific laboratory in Southeast Asia to reach that standard. We opened our doors not only to our own partners but also to competitors, hotels, and restaurants — driven by a philosophy that Indonesia’s reputation for food safety benefits the entire industry.
Remains the nation’s leading seafood testing facility — a trusted partner safeguarding the integrity, safety, and reputation of Indonesian seafood in global markets.
